Eiffel Tower, Paris

The Eiffel Tower (La Tour Eiffel) is located on the Champ de Mars in city of Paris. The iconic symbol of France is one of seven wonders of the world.



Description:

The Eiffel Tower was built for the International Exhibition of Paris of 1889 commemorating the centenary of the French Revolution, named after its builder, the French structural engineer Alexandre Gustave Eiffel.
  • 2.5 million rivets.
  • 300 steel workers, and 2 years (1887-1889) to construct it.
  • Sway of at most 12 cm in high winds.
  • Height varies up to 15 cm depending on temperature.
  • 40 tons of paint.
  • 1652 steps to the top.
  • 50 engineers, designers produced 5,300 "blueprints".
  • 100 ironworkers produced the 18,038 individual parts to be assembled.
  • Composition: 18,038 pieces, 2,500,000 rivets
  • It was almost torn down in 1909, but was saved because of its antenna - used for telegraphy at that time.
